The broadcom card is not good under Linux, as Broadcom haven't released info or drivers for Linux. Knoppix 3.6 has the NdisWrapper driver installed, which allows you to use the Windows Ndis driver under Linux to connect to a WLAN, but that won't work for sniffing or wardriving.

Invest in a PCMCIA WLAN card based on either the Hermes chipset, if you want the best compatibility with Netstumbler, and good compatibility with almos any wireless app under Linux, or go for an Atheros based PCMCIA card, if 802.11g compatibility is necessary. Both of those cards are supported out of the box with the Knoppix Live CD, and in Netstumbler under Windows 2K/XP.
