It is possible, I have the Linksys USB wireless card. Set the Configuration to Infastructure and set the SSID to 0. I usually turn of Power Management. Then go to the search tab and keep hitting search. It's not quite the same as netstumbler since there's no way to plot a finding. But I used it to find a number of Wireless LANs in my area. You may want to go to the linksys site and update your firmware and driver though. I found this helped considerably.
