Netgear WAG511 - is the hirose usable?

After a bit of searching, I almost had the answer I was looking for here (hirose insertions), which was whether the connector I have (pics) is a u.fl hirose, and is a pigtail all I need? But the discussion here (wag511 ant. help) suggested that the connector on the WAG511 card was not usable. Am I reading that correctly and it's only because it's a u.fl and not rated for regular duty, or is there an elecronic/RF reason it can't be used?

Would a permanently installed pigtail be a viable solution for this card? Oh, and is an 8.5 dBi antenna with a 12-foot cable still a usable length or will I be attenuating it all away?

Any help is appreciated. I just got a taste for this yesterday when I left my notebook on in the car and I'm always happy to find a reason to stick another antenna on, and this one's fun. Thanks.
