Level1 WBR-3406TX

Hello bubaka !!!

I've got one WBR-3406TX with 2 Computers connected to this router with USB2.0 dongles from Level1 WNC-0301USB!

But first your questions.

1) I have the original power supply that comes with the router
12 V ~ 1000mA 12VA

2) Newest Firmware is R1.97c7

3) I test it under heavy network conditions. edonkeyownload/upload; FTP download (speed was limited to 7kb/s and max 2 connections/ip) and some Surfin at the same time. The router did have a fallback from 18Mbit/s to 5,5Mbit/s (connection between the router and my computer: the other computer was just surfin) but there was no problem with a crash.

The problem is not the capability of the networkconnection!
I've got simple heat problems with the router.... the solution was simple!
I turned it upside down!!! The adhesive rubber feets ain't enough to cool it down... but if you put it sideways or install it on the wall the crashes schould disappear. The heat comes from the bottom of the router.

Another point that i want to make is the simple truth, that with the newest Firmware of the router is not capable to handle the WPA-PSK encryption !!!!!!!!
That was my biggest disappointment !!!! My first step was to connect the support. They told me that a new firmware release is coming on the way in three weeks (beginning with the 17. of January 2005) and it will enable WPA-PSK encryption.
At the moment it only supports 64bit/128bit - WEP encryption!
Ironically the WNC-0301USB is capable of WPA-PSK and all other encryptions.
I found that on the USB-Dongle works a ZD1211-chip from Zydas in Taiwan (Is a spin off from Zyxel. (www.zydas.com.tw)
But I'v got no clue which cpu works on the router and hope that the support is right... but the promised the encryption on the description. If they fail, I will return the router...
So don't enable the WPA-PSK encryption it won't work now on the router...

I hope the support is right because I'v got no trouble anymore with the router.... only a security problem.

With best regards
Thomas
