VMware is some really amazing software, but it does have some limitations. Your wireless interface will never show up in your list of devices because a Linux guest OS on a Windows host does not support wireless over a bridged virtual interface. You must choose NAT instead.
While this works great for general networking, as far as I've been able to determine, NAT eliminates the possibility of monitor mode, or promiscuous mode sniffing of 802.11b packets.
