I was thinking in buying one of those for now because it seems that it should give better range, (I have some dead spots) you would say better get an antenna for your 2Wire, but it doesn't have how to plug one. And I would get a new router, though. But I'm not sure if is true about that network card.
What I want to do in my new house is to have an outdoor antenna and nice adapters for my laptop, so I can be in whateaver place in the house, and in the front of it is a park, (it is crossing the street) so it would be really cool that I could get a chair and sit in a tree there. Not a damn large range because I won't offer free wireless Internet, (even I would have encryption but you know that is easy to hack them). I would like good suggestions for an access point, network cards (for laptops) and an outdoor antenna.
Thanks.

if my brain serves me correct from when I worked for SBC dsl the 2wire modem/router does not have an external jack for another antenna.
now the 2wire DOES have WEP turned on by default so thats a plus.
Personally I would get a normal DSL modem (recommend the Efficient 5100 B model) and get a 3rd party router.. one where you can change said antenna to.. OR... if you wanna get "fancy" and have the bucks to do it.. get the Netopia 3547 dsl router. It offers wifi via a PCMCIA slot in the back (aka you add a wifi card) I do not know if it will work with Orinoco gold card but if it should, you now have a nice wifi range, plus the ability to add external antenna.
