Was the MMCX connected to anything before? If not, can you identify the current antenna as an etched area on the PCB? (It would probably be on the opposite side ot that shown in your image.

A better picture would be a close up of both sides of the card, taken in the same plane as the PCB. A scanner sometimes works well for this, if you can't take macro shots with your camera.

In addition, are you sure that the signal isn't extended? You don't state if you're using a 16dB omni or directional. FYI: A 16dB omni would be a very flat pattern (~4-5º), and might be easy to miss.
