I've been using the DD-WRT firmware for about 3 months. Unfortunately, I have a problem with signal strength I didn't have with the Linksys firmware. The signal will be strong at first, but then gradually decrease. I have my laptop's Intel "Centrino" turned to max and set the signal strength of the router to 70 and then to 120 and it really doesn't matter. I moved the router next to the door so it would be slightly closer and it didn't work. The router also seems to be slower at assigning an IP address. I had to set up in the CP for an automatic reboot because after a day or two, I have trouble getting an IP address at all without rebooting it.
