However, there are a lot of people who have old Macs repurposed as servers that can't take Apple's own (discontinued) AirPort 802.11b cards (or one can't afford the second-hand market ones), and in several markets you can't get other brands of USB sticks with proper drivers.
The ZyDAS-based sticks make sense as long as you can't get anything else and have have a machine that doesn't need to restart frequently - or sleep.
Mine finally worked great today with the latest drivers, and that was with TKIP/WPA encryption.
EDIT: Yes, I am aware of mail order and the availability of other drivers but they are usually just as finicky. Besides I got a ZyDAS-based stick as part of a router bundle.
