If I went with this SRC card, runing at 300mW, it is probably going to kill my battery time though. I am only getting an hour and half as it is. The laptop has a desktop processor in it and it sucks electricity like a top fuel dragster on methane!!!

Yes.
Depends on if the internal card is going bad. Still might want to check the connections for the antennas.
Without putting holes in the case, you don't.
