That is Because:
To establish a link with two wrt's, one is going to have to be in Client Mode, which requires third party firmware. There are many different firmware versions out there that will allow your wrt to run in client mode. You will have to research which fw will best support your needs.
This is one possible scenario. Open Wide!!!!

Actually, you can use a WRT54G and a WAP54G to accomplish this with the default firmware, as a WAP54G will function as a Repeater/Bridge to the WRT54G.
It can also be done with a pair of WAP54G's, but I'm not sure if it can be done with a pair of WRT's.
