I beat my head up against the wall with Fedora and OpenBSD and my D620.... finally tried Ubuntu, and it's very happy on this laptop... I'm running 6.10.. be careful about going to higher levels as you might run into problems getting drivers compiled. I couldn't get the patched orinoco drivers to compile once the ubuntu autoupdate program upgraded to a higher kernel rev than 2.6.17-11. Finally had to reload the whole OS to get it back where I had a working patched card driver.
