Brand new stumbler and his setup

Hi all,

well after weeks of lurking and reading and FAQing I felt I had enough basic knowledge to give 'stumbling a go.

I purchased the "stumbler special" from FAB-CORP (who hasn't ?!?!) along with a orinoco gold. I breathed life into a "retired" laptop from work and made it dual boot Win98 and Debian 3.0 (I wanted NT 4.0 server and FreeBSD....but such is life I couldn't get it going........yet).

On the Win98 side I really only configured a basic system and added NetStumbler and ethereal. On the Debian side I configured kismet, wellenreiter, and ethereal (I duplicated the ethereal install since only the linux version can grab 802.11b frames directly and the windows one would only see the TCP/IP traffic).

So far I've only done 1 drive with the laptop from work to home (the setup was mainly built at work!) and I didn't use the external antenna but I got a total of 11 APs and only 2 had WEP.

Also wanted to give a big 'THANKS' to all the members that spend entirely too much time here answering questions. I learned alot from you guys, even though it wasn't my question to begin with....and you're enthusiasm for the hobby is addictive!
