Cool Roger, I'm glad you had success with the Vaio. It is a wonderful machine but for what I was after it just wasn't worth my time working out it's quirks. 1) trying to get the external Orinoco Card going with NetStumbler and 2) the download problem (see below)
Another frustrating quirk about the Vaio, was downloading a 12Meg file from the internet. Both the internal and PCMCIA Silver card would disconnect at around the 10Meg pont and never resume. Updating the Agre driver recommended by Windows Update and Updating the Orinoco client drivers didn't help at all. I attempted this process at least 6 times on each card, even with the Vaio within a few feet of the Access point. The only way I could download a 12Meg file was to physically plug the Vaio into my network via an Ethernet cable.
Those two factors were enough to tell me that this was going to be way more trouble than I wanted when traveling. The Vaio is only about an inch longer and wider than my Solo 3450, so the only plus to the Vaio was the built in 802.11 which was more trouble than it was worth. Keep us posted on your Vaio and all your adventures! It's a neat little machine.
Thanks for your reply,
-Jay
