Cool

Yep, exactly right, I've always been into wireless from afar, but now am noticing the towers as I drive from one area to another.

It's exciting, and cool, in a very geeky way, but what the hell, it's not illegal yet.

I had a conversation with someone at work, and he was quite alarmed. He brought up the old "if the front door is unlocked" analogy, but my response is that:

"it's more like people left their front door unlocked, and placed a pile of their receipts on the lawn, the wind comes along, and blows them around, am I a thief because I accidentally grab one out of the wind, initially wonderring what it was? it depends on what you then do with that information that determines your culpability."

I'm still amazed at the number of un-encrypted, sensitive AP's I found. A news-oriented radio station, an AP with the SSID of "Accounting", etc...

I went out again last night, and the current running total for edmonton is now @170 AP's... and I've barely combed the city.

However, I've not stopped long enough to see if my internal miniPCI can actually connect to a LAN or not, I wonder if it's possible to make an external antenna for this thing or not.
