It's source, there are some includes missing from the tools that are not in cygwin, but it looks like they can be compiled. I'm a little more concerned about compiling the drivers

Anyway, unix gurus have to start somewhere. There's nothing like a cool project to give you incentive to try something new, like installing linux and trying to compile source. The entry barrier is low in terms of cost of hardeware, the main cost is your time. Even if you don't succeed, you will be ahead by learning a new skill that's readily marketable (both sun and ibm have products and open positions of linux people). So give it a try, and invest in yourself instead of giving money to the m$.
