Well, I can answer one of your questions - the AirPort card is an Orinoco Gold card, just repackaged. So in theory it should work... Don't know for sure if taking a "regular" Orinoco card and popping it in the PCMCIA slot will work though.
I'm also interested in answers to the other questions...
