Why would it? Does your Laptop mind serial GPS's? The only problem I could foresee would be using a serial gps on a XP ONLY if your GPS had dead batteries.
I know it works fine on mine ( EMAP +32megs ram, running with a Serial -> USB Converter on a P3-900/256/XP Pro. Works Wonderful !
