I've been considering this solution as well. There are a couple of mapsites that will display long/lat coordinates. I've found:

http://www.mapquest.com/maps/latlong.adp
http://tiger.census.gov/cgi-bin/mapbrowse-tbl
http://www.topozone.com/finddd.asp

I know there are more, but don't have the links readily available. There are also some free mapping programs available, but I haven't had the opportunity/time to mess with them yet. If you know PERL I'm sure you can create a simple script to post your coordinates to one or more of these sites. If you do, PLEASE SHARE!
