I would suggest changing your Xjack 3com NIC for a better one - e.g. Orinoco Gold or Cisco 352 range.

Range / Recieve Sensitivity is much better etc.

I have the 3COM Xjack and an Orinoco Gold card and everytime in every situation the Orinoco is better.
