new to kismet and linux

i tried to install/compile kismet under red hat 8 and got this error:

[root@localhost kismet-2.8.1]# make install
make: *** No rule to make target `install'. Stop.
[root@localhost kismet-2.8.1]# ./configure
checking build system type... i686-pc-linux-gnuoldld
checking host system type... i686-pc-linux-gnuoldld
checking for gcc... no
checking for cc... no
checking for cc... no
checking for cl... no
configure: error: no acceptable cc found in $PATH

i used the ./configure command and others but still got the same thing.iam also new to linux,so this is pretty confusing.please help.thank you
