After some extensive research, all the experts state that the "reapeater" function is tied to the specific hardware and therefore there is no such thing as a repeater that will relay the signal from an anybrand AP.
Another option for you is to use a bridge like the linksys wet11 connected to a linksys wap11. This would serve the same purpose as a repeater but more costly as you would have to buy 2 hardware components.
