First, does your bios support booting from a USB device? If it does, then it should work.

If it doesn't and you have a FAT32 file system, then yo could try ZipSlack from slackware. Its a minimal linux install about 100 mb. There is also BigSlack, which is a more full featured version of ZipSlack that takes up about 800 mb.
