If you can boot on USB, then why not get a USB CDROM? I've seen older IOMEGAs going for less than a 512 cf card.
Kismet will require pcmcia services, drivers and such depending on you card. There usually a little more effort that unpacking a tarball, and editing conf files depending on your system.
In this respect, the knoppox-STD is nice, but the current release 1b does not have the gpsdaemon running properly.
