Pretec GPS + dual sleeve iPAQ report :-(
Hi all,
Sadly, the Pretect CompactGPS receiver does not fit toghether with a Lucent card in the iPAQ's double PCMCIA sleeve....
The problem with the sleeve is that both PCMCIA slots are placed back-to-back, so any two cards you want to fit must not have protrusions. For example, you cannot fit a Nokia CardPhone (or PhoneCard, whichever way round) and the Lucent or GPS.
You can, however, do other really nice things, so the actual dual sleeve is worth the buy. For example:
- Lucent card + Iomega Click! (AKA PocketZip). You can get the drive for $21.95, and cheap 40MB disks smaller than a CF card for about $12.50 each... I've tried it and works great, you can store maps, .ns1 files, whatever you want.
- Lucent card + Socket dual serial port card. Here, you can build a reverse-y cable, to feed GPS data into two serial ports at once, so you can get MiniStumbler to mark the APs, plus navigate around using whatever software you want (PocketStreets, CityMaps, OziExplorer CE, etc.) or save your track for later processing.
- You get two extra batteries!
I'll take some pics and post them soon. If anyone has pics of other CF-format GPS receivers, let me know, it may fit.
In any case, it may be possible to build an extended PCMCIA to CF adapter, to raise the bulky GPS section of the Pretec above the Lucent's antenna - any ideas?
Cheers,
Mother
