OK I just got into the world of wireless networking about 3 months ago and so this is still somewhat new to me...But doing some thinking last night I came up with an idea and was wondering if this is possable....If one was to take a PCI to PCMCIA addapter and put in say a Orinoco Gold PCMCIA card and place these into say a unix/win2k server. Could one effectively make an AP this way...I've noticed that most if not all are some way or another this kinda device...I first stumbled on this w/ the apple airport...all this device really is, is a Lucent Orinoco PCMCIA card w/ a powersupply and controller...I've noticed that others do this very same thing...So I guess my question is in final...Is this possable to take a said card and place it into a server w/ an adapter and thus turn it into an AP...If so what issues would be involved with doing this kind of conversion and are there any informative site in relation to this kinda setup?
