I was fooling around with the linksys usb adapter and I had the same problem. The wep stuff is built into XP. Don't try to configure your WEP with the linksys software. I don't have the adapter anymore but as I remember you need to open up the network connection, right click on it and select properties. The WEP stuff is buried in there somewhere.
