Under no circumstances is 802.11x going to be phased out anytime soon.

802.11x is here to stay.

yes 802.11b has its security issues, but if you have had a chance to read any of the updates in regards to the newer revisions of the 802.11 standard, we should hopefully see 802.11a come out using not only a new and improved security mechanism, but a new radio spectrum slot to alleviate any interference (5.8ghz compared to the 2.4 in 802.11b)
