splicing thick antenna cable onto pigtail?
Hi there from the UK!
I'm considering building an external antenna for my Orinoco card. Because the cable length will have to be few metres, I plan to use good quality (aka 'thick, not easily bendable') cable from the antenna.
I know I can buy a pigtail and use an N-connector at the 'card end' of my antenna cable, but that drops a few (more) dB. Is there any mileage in splicing (soldering) the thicker cable to my pigtail cable?
I'm an experienced electronics hobbyist but no RF expert. I'm sure I can make a decent job of such a scheme mechanically, but wonder whether the losses would be better, or worse, than an N-connector joint.
Thanks for your thoughts
