Check the linux-wlan list. The chipset column will give you an indication of which product works with Linux. Hint: Broadcom, and TI chipsets should be avoided entirely, though I understand they can be made to partially work with ndiswrapper. Prism2/2.5, PrismGT, and Atheros are solid choices.
