Dropped connections in WRT54G LAN only

Hi all,

I'm currently attending college and I have to connect my WRT54G in lan only mode (no connecting to the WAN port). That is to say, I have a patch cable from the wall port to one of the LAN ports.

The problem is, if I do this, my wireless connection dies after about a day or so and won't come back unless I connect connect the ethernet cable back to the wan port, reboot, and then move the cable to one of the LAN ports. The wireless light is working all the time. I have tried both the latest Linksys firmware and the Sveasoft firmware. I have also boosted the power to 50 mW.

This situation is really weird and I would like to find a solution to it. Does anyone know why this is happening?

Also, is there any other way to set up the WRT54G such that it acts like a AP? That is to say, a device connected to it on either the LAN ports or the wireless would perceive that it is directly connected to the outside network as if it had been directly plugged into the wall?

Thanks,

Robert
