Im totaly new to the whole wifi business so go easy...
I just went out and bought a wap54g, i see there seems to be several firmware upgrades giving more output power (upto 82mw) isnt there a legal issue for that here in the uk? Can anyone reccomend a good firmware upgrade for the 54? and post a link.

The 84mw hack wont help you if you dont do significant mods to keep the thing cool.. I killed my wap54g by running it only for 3 days at 84mw on the stock antennas with no additional cooling.
If you insist on running high power, you must throw out the antenna's that are supplied with the thing and put on a decent antenna. i tested the swr using a 2.4ghz directional coupler and an hp mW meter, and the match at the default setting is not bad, 1.8:1 but as you go up in power, things get bad quick. 2.1:1 at 50mw 3.6:1 at 84 mw and a frightning 3.9:1 using the 100mw hardware mod.
in other words, if you want to run power over the manufacturers setting, you really should have some equipment capable of mesuring reflected power.
