Yup, but what can you do? Accessing the AP is very ILLEGAL and we DISCOURAGE that here, and going up to the store manager is worse...
I did get away with war-walking once at a business in Houston.. a friend of mine was one of the network admins and I met him for lunch, as he and I were riding the elevator up to his office I had stumbler going and got 4-5 AP's.
i told em he had wireless, he denied it, but when we got to his office, I showed him the MAC's, he did an ARP cache lookup from the routers and found 1 of them.. the others we went to the floors I detected em on and we narrowed it down to 2 offices.. seems these people had used the USB wifi adapters.
I found out later that those who had installed wifi were terminated for security reasons.
my friend has gone out and got a nice Ipaq with the sleave and the gold card.. plus he has read alot of stuff about detection now...
Point is that alot of admins do not know too much about wifi and how easy it is to set up.
I know of a datacenter that has 5 3com AP's in it.. all are secure, but they are still broadcasting. Their CTO swears its not theirs... but I have done directional yagi detection on their building.. and its coming from their building.
The CTO has 3-4 network engineers that have in the past done things that would make you question their talents
