Just to bump this up, Japan, more specifically Tokyo has a very active 2600 scene right now.

decent mix of people show up, half foreigners (gaijin) and the rest local Japanese. English is the predominant language spoken and everyone has laptops and wireless gear (PC Cards, pig tails, antennas etc)
The meetings are in Akihabara where turning on netstumbler could very well crash your system from so many detected wireless access points
Anyways just a heads up to anyone in Japan that Tokyo has a scene.
