Will this antenna work for 802.11b?

Postby netrambler » Fri Mar 07, 2003 8:56 pm

Question: Will this antenna (insert antenna description) work with my 802.11b network?

Answer: In order for an antenna to work properly with a wireless network, it must be tuned for 2.4 GHz (for 802.11b) or 5.3 GHz (for 802.11a).

In particular, quite a few people have asked if a CB radio antenna (like one found at RadioShack) will work with their 802.11b network. The answer is no. The CB radio is tuned for use in a different frequency, and is not compatible.

Where is a good place to buy wireless cards and antennas?

Postby netrambler » Fri Mar 07, 2003 9:03 pm

Question: Where is a good place to buy wireless 802.11b cards and wireless network antennas?

Answer: Two online stores that I have had a lot of success with include Fab-Corp and HyperLink Tech.

FYI: Last time I checked, mention that you're a stumbler and you'll receive a 7% discount at Fab-Corp.
