Clueless Linksys Employee?

Configuration and operational information about stumbled AP's

Postby damage » Wed Oct 09, 2002 4:03 am

I have 2 2.5gig cordless phones at both ends of my house with my ap in the middle of them and have had no problems - my ap is a netgear however.

it needs to be 'ANY' as in all caps. does this thing connect to anything at all? (checking your post)...

maybe that damn card is no good and we are just chasing our tails. (or tales in some cases)

I'll check it again tonight, but in the meantime I'm finding out from CDW about RMAing it and getting another unit...

az2k, do you have any cordless phones and/or infant monitors nearby/in the house?

The cordless/bm device does not have to be at your location.. could be from a neighbor..... I have seen interference with APs on certain channels from those $80 X10 wireless video systems..

Neither I nor my adjacent neighbors have X10 wireless video, but one set of neighbors do have kids, too, so they probably have infant monitors like we do. But since I couldn't get the unit to work at work, I'm going to RMA it anyway. Maybe I just got a fluke unit...

Just curious, did you try changing the channel?

same problem

Postby drick » Sat Jan 11, 2003 1:36 am

i have the same problem with my 802.11b band on my linksys wpc51ab, i switched to channel 6 on the AP (i still lose conenctivity every time a call comes in, until i hit channel, then it comes back).

it works fine now.

p.s. did you get it ar Fryes? if so, TAKE IT BACK. i had to replace 3 (no exaggeration) from Fryes before giving up and ordering one from buy.com. the one from buy.com worked right out of the box.

Let me guess. You ministumbled 4 thousand APs in one shot. They all had an SSID of "linksys" and no WEP :)

The linksys building is pretty small compared to most buildings out here along one side of their wall they had only around 10aps max at the time :) I haven't gone back in a while though.

No, I had visions of you finding the life-testing lab where a roomful of APs was being tortured :)

I live down the road from where the Cincinnati Microwave (Escort Radar Detectors) showroom & factory used to be. I always wondered if the local cops pulsed the building every time they went by - just because they could!

WEP Off?

Postby XXXrated » Tue Mar 04, 2003 10:17 am

I have a student that was trying to set up his Linksys access point with WEP and was having problems. He called Linksys and the tech told him he didnt need WEP turned on and it wasnt that big of a deal! Well, I'm sorry, maybe he hasn't seen the stats on how many defaults linksys access points have been found.

or perhaps he is the reason WEP usage is at an all time low :)

That actually happend at Best Buys. A dude bought a wifi card and found that their AP was open. Not only was it open he saw transactions and info passing through the network. It was all over the news like last summer.
