Configuration and operational information about stumbled AP's

Commpn WEP Thread

Postby mellsworth » Fri Apr 11, 2003 1:38 pm

Does anyone have any help for me as I'm at my witts end.
I have several APs on my campus which I administer. I need to try and find a common thread for a WEP.

The Orinoco AP uses a plain text WEP

The new Linksys WAP11 that we have use Hexadecimal

Is there any way to have these access points be tranparent to my users on my campus.

Is there any way for me to translate my WEP key on the Orinoco to HEX that should work on the Linksys... etc...

Unfortunately most of the clients only support the WEP Key and not HEX  I have tried typeing hex into the ones that don't support hex and passcodes into the ones that only support hex(Converted) but neither appear to work.

It really isn't that difficult, I've done it lots of times. But you have to know the differences between ASCII and HEX.

My first post on this thread explains how to do it:

BTW, Proxim/ORiNOCO also makes a handy converter now. It converts ASCII-HEX-DEC-OCT. Proxim Search for "Encryption Conversion." Version 1.0.29 was the last one I downloaded.

Here http://wifi.home.att.net/EncConvUpd/ is the converter link. Checked my own conversion and looks like dyslexia was the culprit on my failed attempt. Thanks guys.
