Downgrade Linksys BEFW11S4 WEP?

Postby rberger » Thu Oct 03, 2002 7:53 pm

I just bought a Linksys BEFW11S4 4-port router/AP. I also have an Orinoco Silver WNIC. Can the Linksys be setup to run only in 64 bit WEP, or does it have to work in 128? Can Silvers and Golds coexist on this AP or do I need to have all cards at the same encryption level?

Many thanks!

Did your AP/COMBO come with a manual? Mine did.

ftp://ftp.linksys.com/pdf/befw11s4ug.pdf

well in the manual it states that you can set either WEP setting.

Of course if you set it to 128b, if you don't have a 128b card you aren't going to get connected.

If you set it to 64b then both the gold and silver card will be able to connect at 64b WEP.

Thanks BW, I should have looked more carefully at the online manual. I just ordered it the router, it won't be delivered until next week.
