LEAP and VPN Encryption comparison

Postby nashr » Wed Feb 26, 2003 7:27 am

A colleague of mine is writing a paper on WEP, LEAP and VPN encryption. He's looking for folks to challenge his assumptions, and possibly help him flesh out his ideas. I offered to post this here to get the ball rolling.

His work is currently posted at http://www.wlanresearch.com/LEAPVPN.htm

I hope some of you gurus can assist! Thanks

It looks good, and I agree with his conclusions.

One minor typo in the line just above the diagram: "While using IPSec VPN, they may decrypt single 3DES key in a couple of month." should read "months."

The problem with LEAP is, as he touches upon, that it is proprietary. Good for Cisco users, not an issue for users of other brands.

However, the biggest problem is still that of making people aware of security in the first place. If it's being discussed at this level, it becomes a matter of details and "how much can you afford?" Unfortunately, most people are still saying "Wireless security? Do I need that?" Getting them to even consider security is still the real challange, IMHO.
Stop the TSA now! Boycott the airlines.
