New hack for WAP 11 v2.2

Postby Thorn » Sun Aug 25, 2002 1:08 pm

I don't have a WAP11 v2.2, so I can't confirm this, but I've been told that there is a hidden html file on the built-in webserver.

Apparently there is the ability to change the WAP to 22 mb, and there may be some other settings. To use the 22mb youwould need some 22 mbit capable NIC needed (DLink?) or PtP to another v2.2.

Anyone with a v2.2 WAP11 able to confirm this? If so, what other settings are there?

Thank you Thorn, it is always nice to maintain a list of "undcoumented features".. ;) it is interesting on some systems to see what typing in "Joshua" does... ;)

Just a thought mellow, but can't you temporarily just replace the 10mb side with a 100mb NIC on a PC/laptop? That would at least allow you to confirm the 22mbs connection (or not.)

Wondering....

Postby mshimek » Wed Aug 28, 2002 5:48 pm

What happens to the RF bandwidth of the signal at that data rate. Looks like a page to put it in some sort of test mode. I wonder if it is actually usable with those settings. Any other AP's let you do that, and actually work?

Tnx. Thorn.
i test weca.htm

NIC 100Mb <=> wap11 ver. 2.2 <=> wap11 ver. 2.2 <=> NIC 100 Mb and max speed is 900/1100 kb/s on default DTIM and RTS
Distance between WAP"s was 2km Clear Line of Sight.
on 5 km speed was 900 at max ftp data.

Like that kid said in The Matrix, "Woa!" I guess I'll have to rethink my position about Linksys removing the SNMP from the WAP11.

You're welcome, rewot.

hea,
<greetings, my first post>
this little hidden feature fuskered up my WAP11.

I was unable to even connect to my local LAN from the wireless conection.
I had to connect to the web config via a wired connection, and change the 22Mb back to the default 11.

cards are orinicco silver cards.
hub is a 10/100

don't know what happened..if anyone has any ideas..

cheers

22mbs

Postby flipdee » Sat Sep 21, 2002 9:39 am

Thats a very interesting find. Pity the same feature isnt available on the ver1.1's as they seem to be overall better AP's.

Blueboxthief, the Orinoco cards are 11mbs. I think the WAP11 is set to a fixed rate of 22mbs, i.e it doesnt try to negotiate at anything less (although you would have thought it should be backwards compatible as it would make sense.)

If you get a Dlink-520+ or 650+ (+ being the 22mbs of the cards) then you should beable to connect to it and utilise the 22mbs features.

Cheers

Hea there flipdee,
(btw, the ap is a ver 2.2)
thanks for the explnation. ack should have thought of that. the cards can't do it. so maybe the ap can actually do it.
yea i would have guessed that it would do 22mbs, or nearest.

ok, well thanks for the point out.
