New! WAP11 version 2.2

Postby carbolic » Fri Jun 14, 2002 9:25 pm

Linksys is shipping the WAP11 version 2.2 (why don't they ever change the model name?) These can be bought in stores already. So beware.

Significant differences are the following:
1. Firmware is totally different. No upgrades available yet.
2. Netstumbler shows a blank vendor for the WAP11v2.2.

Datasheet ftp://ftp.linksys.com/datasheet/wap11v22_ds.pdf
Product info page http://www.linksys.com/support/support.asp?spid=91

The main Linksys products page doesn't show this yet. It still lists the WAP11 (not v2.2) Hmm.

Example below. The first two APs are WAP11v2.2, the third is a BEFW11S4. Note the MAC prefix is different, too.

This explains all those empty vendors in my growing list!

Do you know if the BEFW11S4 on the image is the versionless/version 1 or if it is the version 2(i bought a version2 but haven't had time to try it out...

as for the empty vendors, they should be updated in the next rev of Netstumbler hopefully. :)

BEFW11S4

Postby carbolic » Sat Jun 15, 2002 9:53 am

Good point! I didn't know the BEF had a version 2.

I expect it's not version 2. It is about 5 months old. And I updated the firmware with a version 1 download.

Yes, currently the version 2 has v.2 in the model number string on the underside of the unit. Also it won't let you update any of the firmware, since there currently aren't any updates. I bought mine about 2 weeks ago, and I just had a chance to open it...
