OC Stumbling Tustin - Irvine 1/2

Configuration and operational information about stumbled AP's

OC Stumbling Tustin - Irvine 1/2

Postby blackwave » Wed May 01, 2002 7:26 pm

Another fun day of stumbling...

As you can see on the map, most stumbled APs are in the clear. (pictures was split because of 512k limit)

Bad points: OS hung twice while stumbling, seems only to happen when get a strong signal (IRVINE AREA).

-Got connection status to most non-wep connections via automatic DHCP.

-A lot of businesses in corporate areas do not have WEP enabled, nor STATIC IP.

-Getting AP SSIDs info from Street Signals, no buildings nearby, mostly in Irvine. The same ones that have traffic cams (see live feed on URL provided below)... scary eh?

Data has been uploaded to the NS DB a few minutes ago.

Woah, I've done a lot of stumbling around irvine/tustin area too but I've never noticed any signals where there weren't buldings around. What where the SSIDs for the streetlight APs? I'd be really interested in checking these out. Irvine is a fantastic area to stumble anyway, lots of tech companies in business parks. Try going up to the cisco building near UCI and watch your log size double ;)

Going through the ptm and zooming in, the signal light aps have the ssid of "default". No suprise. It is possible that I was getting readings from a WWAN, and I just happened to be within the line of sight.

Traffic Signals

Postby carbolic » Thu May 02, 2002 2:20 pm

I spoke with a wireless ISP in Ventura County a few months ago. Those photo-enforced signals upload the pics every night using wireless. In VC I don't think it's 802.11. But it's quite possible that they are using 802.11 for pix in OC.

Now the questions is: Is the photo encrypted?

Remember the big deal about Newt Gingrich (or some senator) having his cell phone call eavesdropped?

This is a stretch, but I wonder if some-public-official being snapped running a redlight from the redlight district would change the sniffing laws. heh.
