gatr,
Are you sure this is a WAP11 Access Point and not a BEFW11Sx (where x= 1, 4 or 8) Wireless Router and Switch? The reason I question this that the WAP 11 has had only three versions that I know of: v1.1, v2.2 and v2.6, but no v1.6.

The Linksys BEFW11Sx series did have at least one model which was v1.6.

It makes a big difference.

Version 1.1 does have diversity, but its done differently. (There's a program you need to locate and download.)

Quick check, how many and what kind of ports are on the back? Single Ethernet only is a WAP11 v2.2 or v2.6. Single Ethernet and USB is WAP11 v1.1. Five Ethernet ports and it's a BEFW11Sx.

The antenna connection on the WET11 bridge is a SMA, while on the WAP11s and the BEFW11Sx series it is a RP-TNC.

Oops, my mistake. The diversity on the v1.1 is available on the USB program only. The downloaded program does many other things, like adjust the power output. Search the web for the "WAP11 Hack."

I have a copy of the Amtel utilites on my site and a ROM version which lets you do all the features. (Some WAP11 ROMs wouldn't let you tweak the radio, for example).

I had to install the latest Utilities from Linksys to get the hack to work ....I did switch to one antenna operation .....havent tried the Yagi yet but did notice that signal strength went from 100% to about 60% (ap very close) if I remove the right antenna ....I have the left selected ....left is viewed form the rear ? ..anyway if I put the right antenna back on it goes back to 100% ....Also ..the channel power settings ....dont really understand that ....just set them all to 80 ? getting closer ...thanks ...mb

Yup that was it ..ran network Wizard and werks fiine ....1200K DL and about 250K up .....We are still playing with Antenna location ...we can get 94% signal strength ...but that involves locating the antenna about 25 feet from my dads house ....we can get about 75% mounting the Antenna on the roof ....any thoughts about that ?
