Other stats that might be interesting are

1. The highest density of access points per sq mile.
2. The highest number of access points reachable at the same time. (I think I have been up to 10 or 11)

Drove around Tampa, FL and logged about 250 APs in one session.

Reached about 10 at once which was interesting, considerin gat home I can't stumble anything but my own in about a 1 mile radius... heh.

Another interesting stat..

How many access points can you see from your house/apartment other than your own?

I see only one.

I can see 2 other than mine most days without even trying and sometimes 3. Of course I live in Morrisville, NC right next to Research Triangle Park and could walk to Cisco in 10 minutes probably so there are more than the average number of tech-inclined people around my neigborhood.

Reminds me, I have got to load Pocketwarrior on my wife's e740 and drive around there.

APs near house

Postby dgoss » Wed Jan 29, 2003 12:41 am

I live in West Hollywood, CA and from my roof (single story home, lots of trees around) and using a -15dBi directional I can get up to 21APs by making a 360 in place. The antenna is good but it also seems that I'm living in a bit of a hotbed of APs. I'm just a couple of blocks from a hospital, a mall and a large hotel - sure that helps.

I had not checked since I set up my network in November but I just had to add another laptop and did a site survey, this time holding the lappy up high near the front window and I picked up 7 networks other than mine. 6 with default SSID's and 4 with no WEP too. This is just using the built in antenna in a $30 Robanton PC Card.

I dont know if I am lucky or not :(

From my flat I cant detect any other Wireless LANs

The closest one is about 400 Meters away in a house it must be, and I only detect it as I drive past.

At lease I am free of any interference. :p
