WLAN Analyzer
I've purchased the the Survey Kit from Marlon that he mentions on that site. The card and the software work very well. It is a 2mb Teletronics DSSS card. The connector is much sturdier that that of the Orinoco cards. BTW, Marlon is a good guy to deal with too.
The only real problem is that it is one more card to haul around and swap in and out of the laptop while surveying sites. The chipset is not compatible with NS. But it is another tool for 802.11b, and a good one. There are a number of these "wireless DSL" providers springing up around the country. You might want to check out http://isp-planet.com/fixed_wireless/index.html Cheers, Thorn |

Survey Software
Tron,
I like it because it shows all fourteen channels at a glance, and it shows interference levels. The software that came with my Orinoco and Linksys cards only shows signal level on a specific channel, and only if you are associated with an AP. Marlon has an explanation on the site of how he's used it in a couple of locations and tracking problems. It depends on what info you are looking for. Slightly different tool for a different view of the 2.4 spectrum. Cheers, Thorn |

Hey Thorn
How much did the Site Survey Kit cost? I am submitting an MRD to Marius: It would be cool to see the Spectrum Analyzer Graphical display added to Netstumbler in addition to the Beacom Frame addition. This could help in detecting closed systems. Marius: You should check out the website at the top of the thread. DSLBiker |

DSLBiker,
About $220. It came COD. Included card, pigtail, 10' LMRW-240, and a big 14db (I think) panel antenna, which measures about 18"x18" square. I can give you specifics if you need it, but I'd have to go pull invoice. I've got to run. I'll check this thread tonight. Tell Marlon the guy from VT with the propeller beanie says "Hi!"
