Custom desk for laptop in vehicle

My fionce's uncle owns a sheet metal place and I did some work for their computers (nothing major) so I got them to make me this. Not quite finished yet but you get the idea and it's really stable and I have taken it for quite a few test runs. In these photo's I'm getting ready to go on one of these many runs.

The 3rd and 4th picture are more to show construction of it. The 3rd one shows the mount and joint (if you wanna call it that) where the large piece slides into and getts tighten down to hold in place. The other picture shows the joint where the piece where the laptop sits on

(pictures not dial-up friendly and are very large is resolution so use either your browsers resizing or do a lot of scrolling )

Nice guy (future father-n-law), looks like its made from stainless steel.

I see why you'd want to mount it high, it'd get lost if it were any lower!

It'd be nice if I had something similar to mount my laptop in my truck. It may even help me pick up a few more APs until I either buy an antenna or make one from a Pringles can.

JottoDesk

Check out the mount in my vechicle.

Might give you some ideas.

EBay always has several laptop mounts for sale of various constructs. I bought one for $30 and have made several modifications to it since. It worked well for my cross country trip.

Yes it's completely removable. I just loosen the little screw and it slides right out. I do know my spelling is horrible, I just took a guess that sounded/looked almost right. I would have cleaned out my card but I really wasn't expecting to post the pictures here I took them for someone else to see. Then I decided why not? so I posted them. It is made from stainless steel. And I have see the other mounts you can buy. This was free and I really didn't trust those others. This one hardly moves except a little flexibility for bumps and when I want to remove it. And if someone really wants to there is room there to sit down. Also with this one it has guards on all 4 corners (while still allowing me access to all connections) so I can slam on breaks and turn corners quickly without it sliding or flying across the car.

I think I answered/repyed to most of the posts. I still gotta save up some cash to pull out the head unit in the dash so I can puta touch screen LCD there. And start working on installing something like DashPC in there.

anyways goodnight all

What I'm using to hold mine down and something you might want to consider is strip velcro. It came with the JottoDesk that I have and it holds it down and is easily removed. I have about a 6" strip across the bottom of the machine towards the back and then about a 4" strip along both sides and nothing along the front so I have a way to grab it and pull it free from the other pieces. I saw the guards on your mount, but that doesn't really keep the machine from bouncing in the tray.

it fits pretty snug in there. I have gone over plenty of speed bumps and gone down quite a few deeps at speeds I probably shouldn't have. So far there has been no issues with that. Couple things I want to add yet to it is a mount for the inverter and the power adapter for the laptop

Old post but still...

Looks really cool. You should see what the guys who make the Packet Sniffers did in their latest episode. Real creative and brilliant guys. They made theirs' out of an old security camera mount from a hamfest and some plexiglass and it's in place by some velcro.

Seems like it would be annoying, but in 5 seconds, it can be removed.
