Thanks for the help
I went to the recommended site and found them on sale for $88.00 without cables or software. http://www.sapphire-gps.com/pages/957737/index.htm
Best I can tell - the software is whatever mapping program I desire - I have Streets & Trips now. But what about the cable, anything special about it? Which is the better of the two? So far no difference in gold or black either - leaning toward black. Thanks for your help

http://shop.garmin.com/accessory.jsp...0%2D10310%2D00 for my e-trex legend I should be able to use it as a USB device with netstumbler without a problem right? The reason I ask is because I am planning on getting a new laptop, and of course it has no serial ports built in it, and I can't get a serial PCMCIA card for it because then I have no where to put my wireless NIC. (Because it only has 1 PCMCIA slot... kinda stupid huh...). So I am left with USB.

Sure, that would probably work...
Liquidz, this thread was over a year and a half old when you replied to it and there's a good chance that most of the problems have been worked out. I sold my old war-driving rig and bought a 12" Powerbook which also doesn't have a serial port, so I've had to resort to using a Prolific usb2serial adapter. I've had no problems with it, even on my windows boxes. I'm using a Garmin GPS V with it, in OS X 10.3 and XP Pro SP1. But then, I haven't actually used it with netstumbler. You will be able to find something less expensive than that Garmin solution, if you want to try that route...
