etrex 2sec update lag error

ok did some quick calcs. i'm not trying to push the sapphire. just pointing out why i'm pissed that garmin won't let the etrex update @ 1sec intervals in NMEA mode. if you're driving @ 60mph, you're going 88ft/sec. so the 2sec update rate is adding 88ft of error to your positional accuracy.

I plan on getting one of these in the near future, within a couple of weeks.

garmin and mapsource

I was able to get a hold of some mapsource maps and uploaded them to my Legend. My beef with the lack of map detail is now gone.... theres soooo much more detail and maps that you can upload to your Legend with the mapsource maps!! All of a sudden I have more detailed maps of my area as well as points of interest (like bank machines, shopping malls, schools, golf courses, etc, etc) which I find to be pretty cool.

I think I might just keep this unit after all

The gov/mil build things to do much more than advertised. For example, the early Landsat satellites were easily capable of resolutions of 5+ meters, but they only made 30 - 25 meter imagery available. Still do.

Same with GPS, if you willing to plonk down the $40K for survey grade equipment and get the license, then you can get sub-centimeter. Oh yeah, you have to sit on a point for a quite a while to get that kind of accuracy. Drive-bys won't do it.

The best thing that's hapenning is that the more data that folks collect and share, the better the positioning will be.

i'm currently having a very slow e-mail conversation with one of the royaltek reps in taiwan about purchasing some of the sapphires. i'm hoping they give me a really good price. assuming that this comes true and we can get these for less than the prices listed earlier in this thread, who would want one? i want an idea of how many i'd be ordering if i got a group discount that's better than what we've already got...

Greetings lullabud,
I am not too sure if you received my e-mail, but I am also interested in the sapphire for a group deal.
