iPaq padded case for $30 (got bored)
I got bored this afternoon and ran out to Fry's. It is made by a company called Platt and was $30. Here is a small write up, it can be used for other fun toys also.
http://www.signalseekers.net/iPaqCas...s/IMG_3963.jpg I went over to Fry's Electronics and bought a black padded case. It is made by Platt and was $30. Here is the padded case with the larger items laid out for marking. http://www.signalseekers.net/iPaqCas...s/IMG_3965.jpg The instructions suggested using toothpicks to mark where things should be. http://www.signalseekers.net/iPaqCas...s/IMG_3966.jpg At first I used the instructions suggestion. It said to use scissors to trim out the area you want. I found it would look much better to finish seperating the pieces of foam all the way down to the bottom. Then you can pull the whole chunk out to cut for depth. http://www.signalseekers.net/iPaqCas...s/IMG_3968.jpg I used the ol' electric knife and cut the pieces to the thickness I wanted. Then I put the pieces back in and checked for the right depth. Perfect. http://www.signalseekers.net/iPaqCas...s/IMG_3970.jpg Here is the finished product. I cut out a huge section for extra stuff like cables and such. Lemme know if you need more info. It is one of those things that is easy, but you start doing it and it looks like ass. So I thought a little bit and it came out good. I hope the pics are small enough, I did a search and didn't find what sizes the pics are supposed to be. Sweet. I have one or two similar to that....they don't contain any electronics though.

Pelican brand cases are the ones I buy. They are very similar. The Pelicans tend to be somewhat expensive, as they are airtight. The design includes a vent so that you can equalize the pressure.

They had the Pelican cases also. The similar size in the Pelican case was $85. This case is lighter also, but appeared to have as much foam. The Pelican is a superior case, but didn't need waterproof or bullet resistance
I think my biggest pic was 85k. I will shrink them down soon since I like pics to show in th thread. I liked the page idea so I can just grab the case and head out to the car. I end up grabbing a handful of stuff and going out the the car. Then notice I have forgotten something and make another trip. This way everything is in one spot. Once I get a FAB-Corp 5db antenna i will mount a small metal plate to stick the antenna too for storage. Justin |
