Ha ha- the Ancient Greeks? Come on now. That's not very nice :P

Seriously though- lots of respect for you SC's. The Navy would fall apart if it wasn't for you guys.

On a side note, can anyone point me in the direction of a good GPS that'll work with Kismet and uses USB as an interface? Possibly works with GPSD natively in linux? I'm trying to keep the used disk space for my box down as low as possible.

Right now its hovering at about... 300 MB uncompressed, and I was thinking of distributing the configuration if the project is a hit.

I'd also like to ask if anyone has a preference with Wireless USB dongles for use in Kismet, since the one I used needed to use the NDIS wrapper and would not work on and off.

Thanks everyone.

The pharos usb model that comes with MS streets and trips works pretty well.

But he needs to do something with that really funny looking avatar. Damn.

Hey, somebody had to do it. You guys were being way to nice to a newbie, even if he isn't the typical tard. Might as well start the break-in period.

I'll admit I'm goofy looking. Its not like I have any great control over my appearance here :P.

You don't need to make fun of me for it.
/wrists

Just kidding.

I'm hoping to get the next version of my machine working within the next week or so, but I'm in the need of a new wireless adapter at the least. How does that Netgear WG111 adapter work? Any good with kismet?
http://www.netgear.com/Products/Adap...ers/WG111.aspx

Also, I might need some help with my kismet auto-start script. I can't seem to get it to quit when I put the machine in runlevel 0 or uise the shutdown command. It tries to load Kismet again, then Linux does a hard shutdown of the program, which means the log file doesn't get dumped properly.

The WG111 is a Prsim54 (softmac) chipset, so should work with kismet, as long as you use the correct driver and capturesource statement (Kismet documentation, section 12).

Are you running kismet_server alone, or also kismet_client ?
If you only run kismet_server, a "killall kismet_server" placed at an appropriate place in your shutdown script should work.

When I start Kismet, I just run

exec kismet -s

in the rc2.d file named S20startkismet

Is there a better way of doing this? I had always used a GUI before, and thats not what I want for this project.

By running it like that, you are using the kismet bash script in /usr/bin. It's a bash script that passes the params to the actual programs (kismet_server / kismet_client). If you are running a headless system, you might as well just run kismet_server alone.

"man kismet <enter>" should give you enough info

Now you say that! Where were you two weeks ago when I drove through the area? I may be back that way in the next several months, and I'll try to take you up on the offer.

Just as an FYI, a lot of us meet yearly at Shmooocon in DC.

You know he started his talk this year with his background in ECM and made the remark, "If you ever find yourself in the cockpit of a military jet, don't touch anything with yellow and black stripes." My reaction was "no shit!", but I'd had some prior training on how to rescue people from such aircraft. I was wondering how many people caught the reference.

Of course, for real clean fun, I suggest grabbing that T-handle marked "RESCUE--->" and running 90º from the fuselage.

I've always wondered why they call it a "zero G ejection seat"... That's definitely false marketing.. I mean, becoming up to 2 inches shorter in height, definitely means you got exposed to more than zero G ??!?

Yes I DO know that the "zero G" description doesn't refer to the amount of G's you are pulling when getting ejected..."

The yellow and black handles are especially important at airshows, where people love to climb around a cockpit and touch everything. Normally an ejection seat or canopy is pinned in place, but accidents have happened.

What community did you service select? Do you have orders yet/know where you're going?

I know a handful of the LTs down there, mostly from the Prowler community and also from Iraq.

I'm in my first year here, so I don't have to service select for another 3 years, but I'd like to be a flyboy. No orders until the end of my senior year.

If you have MSN add me and we can discuss if I know any said LT's.
